2008 Nassaney Memorial Team Award Winner
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
In the spirit of the institutional and NCAA philosophy, the Nassaney Memorial Program of the Year demonstrates the continued effort to support the balance and development of the whole personal through the Bryant University student-athlete experience.
Teams are awarded points for achievement in the classroom, participation in community service, participation in campus community events, and serving as leaders in the community. The most well balanced program, demonstrating excellence in all areas of academics, athletics and community will receive this prestigious honor.
The Nassaney Award is supported by the Nassaney Foundation in conjuction with Bryant's CHAMPS/Life Skills Program.
Who was Shawn M. Nassaney?
Shawn M. Nassaney, born on July 7, 1976, grew up in
Pawtucket, Rhode Island as a devoted Yankee fan. He attended Saint
Raphael Academy, where he developed an interest in running and
became a star on the track team. He attended Bryant and graduate
cum laude in 1998 with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, while
leading Bryant's track and cross-country programs. While at Bryant,
Shawn was a two-time recipient of the coveted "Bulldog Award," for
his athletic ability combined with his commitment to the athletic
program.
Shawn was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 175 on September 11, 2001.
Best known for his enthusiasm and drive, Shawn quickly gained the respect and friendship of the his friends, classmates, family, teammates, and colleagues at his employer, American Power Conversion. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those countless people he touched all over the world. He had a contagious love of life, infectious smile, and was a natural leader who mentored and instilled his sense of values, passion and drive for excellence.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRYANT WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM, THE 2008-09 NASSANEY MEMORIAL TEAM AWARD WINNERS!
Team Accomplishments:
- Led by captains Delia Glover and Maureen Atkins, the Bulldogs
went 7-6 against Northeast Conference opponents in the team's first
year of Division I competition.
- Senior Maureen Atkins served a co-chair of a very success
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee that organized several community
service events including a canned food drive, Kids Day activities
and a campus cleanup in the spring.
- Team went 2-1 against Providence College and posted its first
Division I victory over South Carolina-Upstate on August 29, 2008
by a score of 3-0.
- Eight Dean's List Students in Spring of 2009
- Delia Glover Named Bryant Athlete of the Year; RIAIAW Female
Athlete of the Year; NCAA???Woman of the Year
- Maureen Atkins Named Omar Shareef Spirit Award winner and
recipient of Volleyball's Bulldog Award
- NEC Conference Academic Honors for: Julie Geonnotti, Hilary
Andrews, Jazmin Stoner, Monika Sattler, Robyn Gardner, Delia
Glover, Morgan Wood, Maria Scocca.
- Monika Sattler perfect 4.0 GPA
