Bio

Deputy Director of Athletics John Ruppert enters his 25th year at Bryant University in 2022-23. Ruppert oversees the day-to-day operations of the Bryant University Athletic Department, including facilities, event management, marketing and promotions for Bryant's 25 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams.

Ruppert was named Assistant Athletic Director in September of 1998 and was promoted to Associate Athletic Director in July of 1999. Appointed interim Director of Athletics following the departure of Dan Gavitt to the Big East Conference, Ruppert was named Senior Associate Athletic Director in 2005. He was promoted to the position of Deputy Director of Athletics in 2015.

Bryant has undergone a great deal of change during Ruppert's 24 years. The school went from Bryant College to Bryant University, the Bulldogs made the move to the Division I level and Bryant has added nine varsity sports during his tenure. Bryant has also expanded its footprint with the construction of state-of-the-art facilities around campus. These include the David M. '85 and Terry Beirne Stadium Complex, the Bulldog Strength and Conditioning Center, Conaty Park, the Conaty Indoor Athletic Complex and the new Bryant Convocation Center and Arena that is currently in the process of being built.

A 1989 graduate of Temple University, Ruppert came to Bryant from the Atlantic-10 Conference, where he served in several capacities, including Director of Championships. As the director, he coordinated the conference's 21 team championships, including event planning, and oversaw all aspects of administration and hiring and evaluating officials. He also served as the A-10's liaison with all coaching groups.

Among his other responsibilities were developing the regular-season league schedules for men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, women's lacrosse, softball and baseball as well as overseeing the conference's merchandising program.

As an undergrad, Ruppert was a letterwinner on the Temple men's swimming and crew teams. After earning a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Ruppert earned his master's degree in education at Temple in 1993.

Ruppert and wife Julie reside in North Attleboro with son Connor and daughter Emma.
