By-Laws

ARTICLE I ? ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility shall not begin for student-athletes until five (5) years after the class of which the person was a member is graduated from Bryant University. For coaches, eligibility shall not begin until one year of separation after employment has ended at the University. For teams, eligibility shall not begin until ten (10) years after that team?s final date of competition as determined by the NCAA championship for that particular sport. Under extraordinary circumstances, the committee may waive eligibility requirements with a unanimous vote of approval.
ARTICLE II ? QUALIFICATIONS
Any Bryant University alumnus/a who has attained outstanding recognition or superior accomplishments in any sport is eligible for nomination.
The nominee shall be chosen on the basis or playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character and his or her contribution to the team or teams on which he/she played, and to Bryant University.
Any Bryant University alumnus/a that has enhanced the University?s athletic programs, community life and professional attainments which have enhanced their own prestige and have added honor to Bryant University.
The Bryant University Athletics Hall of Fame may include through the nomination process, elect and induct an individual(s) who does not qualify as an alumnus/a or student-athlete, but who the selection committee feels should be in the Hall of Fame because of his/her contribution to Bryant University athletics.
Categories for Athletics Hall of Fame induction are student-athlete, coach/administrator, team, and contributor.
A team?s induction to the Athletics Hall of Fame shall not preclude the induction of any individual student-athlete on that team.
ARTICLE III ? ANNUAL LIMITATION
No more than six (6) new members may be selected by a 2/3 or better vote in any given calendar year. Inductees are limited annually to not more than two (2) in any given sport. However, a waiver of the limitation of six in any calendar year may be made by a unanimous vote of the selection committee.
ARTICLE IV ? ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE
There shall be a committee known as the ?Athletics Hall of Fame Committee? which will consist of the following members:
1. Director of Athletics & Recreation
2. Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications
3. Vice President for Institutional Advancement or her/his designee
4. Director of Alumni or her/his designee
5. Two alumni, who are Athletics Hall of Fame members
6. Two faculty members
7. Two athletic staff members
Each of the first 4 committee members (#1-4) are permanent given their position at the University. Each of the other committee members (#5-7) shall serve a four-year term. Initially, one member of each group in #5-7 above will be elected for two (2) years and the other four (4) years. Thereafter all appointments will be for the four (4) year terms.
The Director of Athletics as chairperson of the Athletics Hall of Fame Committee shall appoint all members of the committee.
ARTICLE V ? CHAIRPERSON
The Director of Athletics shall be the chairperson of the Athletics Hall of Fame Committee and shall preside at all meetings.
ARTICLE VI ? NOMINATIONS
Nominations may be submitted by any member of the Bryant University community: alumni, faculty, staff, and students. Candidates nominated but not elected to the Athletics Hall of Fame shall remain active candidates for the next class to be selected. After a nomination is considered for two consecutive years and not selected, then a candidate will have to be renominated.
ARTICLE VII ? HALL OF FAME HOUSING
The Bryant University Athletics Hall of Fame shall be housed in the Elizabeth & Malcolm Chace Wellness & Athletic Center in an appropriate place to be determined.
ARTICLE VIII ? AMENDMENTS
These by-laws may be amended at the Athletics Hall of Fame Committee?s annual meeting by written petition of three (3) or more active members and approved by a 2/3 vote of the membership present and voting.
