Academics
Bryant University is a recognized member of the NCAA’s
Life Skills Program. The program is designed to provide
student-athletes with an enriched co-curricular experience while
pursuing excellence in the classroom, on the playing field, and in
the community.
Academic Support and Advisement
Student, student-athletes face many unique challenges in the areas
of time management, study skills development, course balance and
selection, and utilization of campus resources. The
University and the Department of Athletics is sensitive to the high
standards of success we expect from our student-athletes. The
support and mentorship provided to our student-athletes is designed
to provide various individualized time management and study skill
strategies to prepare them for success. We also utilize tracking
methods to ensure that all student-athletes are taking full
advantage of the academic resources provided by the University.
The mentorship of the student-athletes designed to supplement, not
replace, the academic advising offered by Undergraduate Programs.
Additionally, all student-athletes are encouraged to develop
relationships with their faculty, utilize the Academic Center for
Excellence (ACE) and the Writing Center on a weekly basis. ACE
offers a variety of academic support resources including learning
skills assessments, learning labs, free tutoring services, and
learning specialists. In addition to the utilization of ACE,
there is mandatory study hall for all freshmen student-athletes,
and any upperclass student-athlete with a cumulative GPA below a
2.4. Over one-third of our student-athletes earned a GPA of
3.0 or higher last semester, while over 20% were named to the
Dean’s List.
Personal Growth and Development
University life is a new experience. This element is designed
to address the added demands for student-athletes in the areas of
academics, social pressures, and the transition to a new level of
athletics. Educational speakers regarding this element will
focus on academic, health and wellness, and social issues.
Community Service and the Peer Mentor Programs are
opportunities to “practice” the points of emphasis in
the area of personal growth and development. Value based
choices are the primary focus of this component.
Career Enhancement
Student-athletes have a unique co-curricular experience that
emphasizes leadership, initiative, teamwork, goal setting, goal
achievement, and extensive time management. This program
focuses on the student-athlete taking advantage of all of these
tools in the career search and workplace.
Athletic Success
As we endeavor to support our athletic programs’ success on
the field of play, targeted programming in the areas of team
leadership, communication, team chemistry, and sports psychology
will be the areas of focus. Additionally, the continued
development of SAAC and their goal of garnering community support
for all programs will continue to foster a sense of Bryant spirit
and pride.
The Black & Gold Club
The Black & Gold Club provides
Bryant University student-athletes and coaches with the resources
to further enhance the university’s athletics program.
Through various pregame functions, alumni reunions, and annual
summer golf tournament, the Black & Gold Club is an excellent
connection to the athletics department throughout the year.
Members of the Black & Gold Club consist of alumni and
friends from across the country.
