Coach Tim Brien is the first Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for the Bryant Bulldogs. He is a Certified Strength& Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). Coach Brien is also a licensed Athletic Trainer with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). He recently retired after a 21 year career as a Firefighter with the Woonsocket Fire Department. He also was the Athletic Trainer/Strength Coach for the Brown University Track and Field teams until joining the Bulldogs staff where he assists Coach Brown with the throwers. He is a USATF Level 1 certified coach.
Tim has been competing in strength competitions for over 25 years. His career began with winning the 1981 Hawaii Armed Forces Power lifting Championships while serving in the Navy in Pearl Harbor. He won the 1985-86 New England Strongest Man Competitions and has won many state and regional championships in both power lifting and weightlifting. In 2002 he won the AAU National Power lifting Championships and 2003 won both the National and World titles setting many world records in the squat and dead lift. In 2005 he won the Masters divisions in the AAU Power lifting and USA Weightlifting National Championships. As a Firefighter he has competed in the Firefighter Combat Challenge and the Toughest Firefighter Alive competitions.
Tim has a bachelor's degree in physical education/exercise science and a master's degree in kinesiology from the University of Rhode Island.
