KEVIN BROWN NAMED 2013 SPRING SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD WINNER AMONG 74 BULLDOGS NAMED TO NEC ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball standout Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass.) was one of seven athletes selected as the 2013 Spring Scholar-Athlete award winners for the Northeast Conference, announced by the NEC on Thursday.

This spring, Brown capped off one of the most historic careers in program history hitting a team-high .367 with 81 hits, 16 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 48 RBI. He also scored 49 runs, walked 47 times and stole 22 bases while transitioning from the outfield to third base. Brown finished the season with a .498 on-base percentage and a .552 slugging percentage. He provided the game-winning hit in Bryant's NCAA victory over Arkansas and then homered in his final game with the Black and Gold two days later against the Razorbacks. He leaves Bryant as the Division I leader in every single major offensive category and wraps up his career as the all-time leader in doubles and tied for second all-time in hits with 277.

I addition to his NEC Scholar-Athlete honor, Brown was named to the Capital One Academic All-District I First Team in May, becoming the first player in Bryant’s Division I history to earn Academic All-America honors. Brown graduated from Bryant this past spring with a degree in Political Law while compiling a 3.53 GPA.

The Northeast Conference awards the honor of Scholar-Athlete to one individual in each sport each season, and to earn the award, nominees must have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.20 and participate with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC also announced its spring Academic Honor Roll, consisting of 820 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade-point average.  There were also 206 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better grade point average.

Eight Bulldogs were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, while 74 Bryant University student-athletes were named to the NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
