Brown named a Capital One Academic All-American

BRYANT'S BROWN NAMED CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC-ALL AMERICAN

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Enjoying one of the most successful seasons in program history on the field, Bryant University senior third baseman Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass.) was recognized for his work in the classroom by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as he was named a Second Team Capital One Academic All-American on Friday.

Named a Capital One Academic All-District I First Team selection a month ago, Brown becomes the first player in Division I history to earn Academic All-America honors. He is also the only player from the Northeast Conference and one of only two players from a New England school (Jeff Keller-Dartmouth).

Brown graduated with his Politics and Law degree two weeks ago, finishing his collegiate career with an overall 3.49 GPA. His performance on the field has been nothing short of remarkable this season. He was named the NEC Player of the Year and was selected First Team All-NEC marking the fourth-straight year he has attained all-conference accolades. Brown currently leads the Bulldogs, who begin play in their first-ever NCAA tournament this evening against Arkansas, in hitting at .368 and has 16 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 46 RBI and 47 runs scored. He's also walked 47 times, posting a .505 on-base percentage which is sixth in the country. At one point this season, Brown reached base safely in 16-straight plate appearances, falling two shy of tying the NCAA Division I record. In his career, Brown is Bryant's all-time leader in doubles and is third all-time with 273 hits.
