Bulldogs meet A&T in mid-week series

GAME NOTES

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Looking to rebound from a tough weekend, the Bryant University baseball team will face North Carolina A&T in a mini two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.

The Bulldogs (3-6) enter the mid-week series having gone 3-3 in their last six games. They were dealt a stunning blow on Sunday as Radford rallied for five runs in the ninth to tie the game before winning it in the 11th. After a 6-2 start, the Aggies (6-7) enter Tuesday's contest having lost each of their last five games. It will be the first meeting between the two programs in school history.

Through three weekends, the Black and Gold continue to be led by the trio of junior Daniel St. George (Shelton, Conn.), sophomore Dan Cellucci (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Matt Albanese (East Haddam, Conn.). St. George is hitting .364 with three doubles, four RBI and nine runs scored, while Cellucci leads the team in average (.406), doubles (5) and runs scored (11). Albanese is enjoying a stellar start to his career, hitting .359 with three doubles, a home run, a team-high nine RBI and seven runs scored.

Bryant is scheduled to throw senior Vaughn Hayward (Glendale, R.I.) on Tuesday and freshman Jack Patterson (Suffield, Conn.) on Wednesday. For Hayward, it will be his third start as a Bulldog and second this season. He's currently 0-1 with a save and a 5.40 ERA in five innings. When Patterson toes the rubber on Wednesday it will mark the first collegiate start of his career. The lefty has appeared in three games this season as a reliever, allowing six runs on just one hit over 2.2 innings.

A&T comes into the mid-week series after dropping three games at the Davidson tournament. The Aggies fell to Massachusetts on Friday before dropping a pair to host Davidson over the weekend. A Louisville Slugger Third Team All-American a year ago, senior outfielder Luke Tendler leads the Aggie offense with a .381 average, four doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored. Ryan Hill is the spark at the top of the order and leads the team with 13 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

On the mound, A&T will turn to sophomore left-hander DarAmani Swift on Tuesday and senior Justin Godette on Wednesday. Swift is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in nine innings, while Godette is 0-1 and has allowed 11 runs on 11 hits in just two innings. Swift's only win of the year came against regional power Elon as he allowed one run on six hits over six innings.

First pitch for Tuesday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday's game will be a 4:00 p.m. first pitch.
