Bulldogs host Northeastern on Wednesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team welcomes Northeastern to Conaty Park on Wednesday, April 30. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs (31-10) are currently riding a nine-game winning streak and will look to sweep the season-series from the Huskies (19-22). Northeastern has won each of its last three games.

Earlier this year, the Black and Gold rode a dominant pitching performance from Vaughn Hayward (Glendale, R.I.) to a 3-0 victory over the Huskies in Boston. Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, Conn.) and John Mullen (Walpole, Mass.) also homered in the game to help the Bulldogs win their fourth-straight game in the series.

Bryant is in the midst of another outstanding season as they are currently ranked 30th in the country in RPI. The Bulldogs also own the most road victories (22) of any team in the country and are in the top 20 of several statistical categories. Bryant is currently seventh in the country in doubles per game (2.15) and 14th nationally with 88 doubles. The Bulldogs are also ranked in the top 20 in batting average (13, .307), hits allowed per nine innings (20, 7.41), on base percentage (12, .397), runs (16, 293), scoring (13, 7.1), shutouts (9, 7), slugging (10, .443), stolen bases (12, 75) and stolen bases per game (11, 1.83).

Individually, junior Carl Anderson (Sudbury, Mass.) ranks seventh nationally with 25 stolen bases and ninth in stolen bases per game (0.61). His 25 stolen bases are a Division I single-season record, while his 50 stolen bases are a Division I program record. Hayward ranks 13th in the country in victories (8), while sophomore Buck McCarthy (Saugus, Mass.) is currently 37th in the country with a .475 OBP and Gavitt and freshman Matt Albanese (East Haddam, Conn.) are both 37th in the country with four triples.

Northeastern is playing well right now, having won a weekend series at Notre Dame and earning a 4-3 victory over Hartford on Tuesday. Connor Lyons leads the team with a .357 average, six doubles, four triples and 32 runs scored. Michael Foster leads the team with 23 RBI and 12 stolen bases. Projected starter Isaac Lippert has been strong on the mound, posting a 1-3 record and a 1.86 ERA in 38.2 innings.
