Pro ball wrap: Former Bulldogs wrap up professional seasons

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With minor league baseball officially over, BryantBulldogs.com takes a look at how former members of the Bryant University baseball program performed this year.

Kevin McAvoy – Portland Sea Dogs (AA)

McAvoy wrapped up his third professional season with an 8-9 record and a 5.80 ERA. He made 22 starts, threw three complete games and finished the year with 116 1/3 innings. McAvoy was much better following the all-star break, going 3-5 with a 4.12 ERA in 10 starts. He allowed two earned runs or less in seven of his final 12 starts and threw his first professional complete game on June 21 against Harrisburg. McAvoy allowed two runs on two hits over seven innings in a complete-game victory on July 25 and then wrapped up his season with a career-high eight innings against New Hampshire. He is 19-20 with a 4.47 ERA in 59 professional starts.

Craig Schlitter – Modesto Nuts (A Advanced)

Schlitter enjoyed an outstanding season in Modesto, posting a 2-2 record and a 4.26 ERA in 38 appearances. He struck out 66 and walked just 30 in 50 2/3 innings. Schlitter was third on the team in appearances and second in strikeouts among relievers. He was dominant over his final 18 appearances, posting a 2.73 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings. Schlitter allowed just eight earned runs on 18 hits. He is now 7-3 with a 3.27 ERA, 127 strikeouts and just 43 walks in 68 professional appearances (104 2/3 innings).

Kyle Wilcox – Clinton LumberKings (A)

Wilcox finished his season with a 4-6 record and a 7.11 ERA in 36 appearances, nine starts. He struck out 80 and walked 68 in 76 innings. Wilcox opened the season as a starter before moving to the bullpen after nine starts. In the second half of the season, he went 3-1, struck out 44 and allowed just 27 hits in 33 2/3 innings spanning 21 appearances. Wilcox celebrated the fourth of the July with one of his best outings, striking out four and allowing just two hits over 3 1/3 innings to earn the win. He is now 6-8 with nine saves and a 6.25 ERA in 55 professional appearances. He has struck out 104 and walked 80 in 99 1/3 innings.

Brandon Bingel – West Virginia Black Bears (A Short Season)

Bingel enjoyed an outstanding start to his professional career, earning a spot on the South Division All-Star team. He went 0-2 with four saves and a 2.91 ERA in 16 relief appearances. Bingel struck out 16, walked just nine and allowed only 19 hits in 21 2/3 innings. He was dominant in his first 12 outings, allowing just one earned run on 11 hits in his first 18 professional innings. However, Bingel allowed six runs on eight hits over his final 3 2/3 innings.

Robby Rinn – AZL Royals (Rookie)

Rinn played in all 58 games for the Bulldogs this past spring and then played in 50 more with the Kansas City Royals' affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League. He hit .280 (53-189) with 13 doubles, two triples, a home run, 31 RBI and 24 runs scored. Rinn picked up two hits and scored twice in his professional debut on June 21 and hit his first professional home run two days later. He got hot in July, hitting .321 with seven doubles and 14 RBI in 23 games. He finished the season with 12 multi-hit games.

Matt Albanese – Elizabethton Twins (Rookie)

Albanese missed the season as he was still recovering from the broken bone that he suffered during the college season.
