Bulldogs continue homestand as Northeastern comes to town Wednesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team continues its nine-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon when it welcomes Northeastern to Conaty Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Chris Wright (0-4, 10.64) vs. Tom Githens (0-1, 9.87)

Wright will be in search of the first win of his career when he toes the rubber on Wednesday afternoon. He has allowed 26 hits, walked 23 and struck out 27 in 22 innings. Wright will be pitching for the first time since April 18 when he allowed one run on two hits, walked three and struck out four in two innings against Quinnipiac.

Githens has walked seven, struck out 14 and allowed 26 hits in 17 1/3 innings. He last pitched on April 23 against NYIT, striking out four over three innings of relief.

SERIES HISTORY

Bryant has an 8-2 lead in the all-time series against Northeastern. The Bulldogs have won six-straight games against the Huskies, outscoring them 79-16 in the process. Last year, Bryant cruised to a 19-2 victory in Boston behind two home runs from Matt Albanese and five solid innings from then-freshman Craig Lacey (Westfield, Mass.).

NOTES AND NOTABLES FOR NORTHEASTERN

The Bulldogs wrapped up the month of April with a 17-4 record, moving back to .500 on Sunday for the first time since the opening weekend of the season.

Bryant hit .287 and averaged 6.8 runs per game. The Bulldogs' pitching staff posted 4.13 ERA and held opponents to a .245 average.

Junior Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) hit .343 with 28 RBI and 23 runs scored in the month of April.

Sophomore Nick Angelini (Bedford, N.H.) hit .338, scored 26 runs, walked 20 times and struck out just six times during the month.

Freshman Jimmy Titus (Stafford, Conn.) hit a walk-off home run on Sunday and now has 18 extra-base hits this season, the most among NEC rookies. He has also driven in 28 and scored 32 times.

Titus's six home runs are tied for the most by a freshman in DI program history. Kevin Brown hit six in 2010 and Jamie Skagerlind hit six in 2009.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

Northeastern enters Wednesday's game with a 22-18 overall and a 11-4 mark in the CAA. The Huskies are first in the CAA standings are hitting .282 and have posted a 5.34 team ERA. Max Burt is hitting .331 with 15 doubles, three home runs and has a .968 fielding percentage at short. Cam Hanley leads the team with 34 RBI and Pat Madigan has six home runs and 30 RBI.
