Angelini, Nicolas pace Saturday win over LIU

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Nick Angelini (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman Brian Nicolas (Langhorne, Pa.) each drove in four runs to lead the Bryant University baseball team to an 18-3 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon at Conaty Park.

Angelini finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored, Nicolas was 4-for-5 with four RBI and five others scored multiple runs. Junior Gaby Cruz (Miami, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored and freshman Jake Gustin (Peabody, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore Tyler Mattison (Fort Ann, N.Y.) notched his seventh-straight start of three runs or less to earn his eighth victory over the year. He allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings.

• Angelini and Nicolas both hit three-run doubles as part of a six-run first inning for the Black and Gold.

How it Happened

• Redshirt sophomore Jimmy Titus (Stafford, Conn.) started a two-out rally in the first as he doubled to right center. A walk and an infield error then loaded the bases and Angelini cleared them with a slicing line drive to right center. Another walk and another error reloaded the bases and Nicolas doubled over the center fielders head to score all three.
• In the second, junior James Ciliento (Mahwah, N.J.) doubled, classmate Chris Wright (Cumberland, R.I.) walked and an infield error loaded the bases. Angelini then drew a walk to bring home a run and a ground ball to third was misplayed to score a second. Gustin followed with a sac fly and redshirt sophomore Ryan Ward (Millbury, Mass.) capped the inning with a two-run single to left center.  
• Wright extended Bryant's lead with sac fly in the fifth.
• In the sixth, Gustin and Nicolas delivered back-to-back RBI singles and Ciliento and Titus delivered back-to-back sac flies to make it 16-2.
• Cruz drove in a run with a single in the seventh and freshman Matt Woods (Warwick, N.Y.) singled home his first-career run in the eighth to close the scoring.
