Bryant falls in series finale to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Bryant University baseball team fell to Virginia Tech, 10-2, in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.

Senior James Ciliento (Mahwah, N.J.) finished with a pair of hits, a double, an RBI and a run scored. He went 6-for-12 with a double, triple and three RBI on the weekend. Junior Shane Kelly (Sewell, N.J.) drove in Bryant's other run.

• Nick Biddison broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run to open the fifth inning.    

How it Happened

• Virginia Tech got on the board with a two-out rally in the second. Fritz Genther singled with two outs, stole second and scored on a single Brennan Reback.
• Bryant knotted the score in the next half inning. Sophomore Jake Gustin (Peabody, Mass.) singled with one out, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out double from Ciliento.
• The Hokies broke the tie with three runs in the fifth. Biddison opened the inning with a home run, Tanner Thomas plated a run with a single and the third run scored on a wild pitch.  
• Bryant answered with a run of its own in the top of the sixth. Ciliento singled advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a sac fly from Kelly.
• Virginia Tech used a sac fly of its own in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-2.
• The Hokies put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

• Junior Tyler Schoff (Lee Center, N.Y.) allowed four runs on four hits, walked four and struck out three over four-plus innings.
• Senior Jack Ipsen (Eatontown, N.J.) allowed two runs on just one hit over 2.1 innings of relief.
• Ciliento finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
• Kelly went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
