Rodriguez named NEC Rookie of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University baseball freshman Damaurys Rodriguez was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week on Tuesday afternoon.

Rodriguez safely hit his way onto base in each of Bryant's three NEC games against Wagner, accounting for a .571 on-base percentage during the home series. The first-year Bulldog opened the three-game set with back-to-back multi-hit performances, earning his way on base seven times over the course of two Bryant victories. After a groundout in his first at-bat of the series, the freshman DH reached safely in his next three plate appearances during the 12-1 victory. Rodriguez returned the to DH spot for the series' middle game, going 2-for-3 with two bases on balls in a 9-3 triumph. Catching the series finale, the rookie logged a hit for the ninth straight game.

In addition, Jake Gustin, Tyler Mattison and Vito Morgese were named NEC Prime Performers. Gustin homered twice and drove in six against Wagner, Mattison allowed one run over a career-high 8.0 innings and Morgese struck out a career-high 11.
