Bulldogs drop doubleheader to CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Bryant University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Central Connecticut on Saturday. Bryant dropped game one, 7-2, before falling 14-1 in the second game.

With the two losses, Bryant lost its first NEC series since March 24-25, 2018 when it lost two-of-three at Wagner. The Bulldogs have now played 85 NEC series and have won or split 80 of them.

On Saturday, CCSU collected 12 extra-base hits on the afternoon, while limiting Bryant to just three runs on 13 hits.

Key Moment (Game 1)

  • Noah Martinez gave the Blue Devils a 5-1 lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the second.                           

How it Happened (Game 1)

  • CCSU grabbed the lead with a two-run home run in the first.
  • Logan Allen then led off the second with a triple and scored on a ground out from Tommy DiTullio.
  • Martinez's three-run home run, however, highlighted a four-run second for the Blue Devils.
  • Bryant would scratch across an unearned run in the fifth but that would be as close as they got.  

Stats and Game Notes (Game 1)

  • Allen collected his first triple of the year.
  • DiTullio went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
  • Burrows allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits over 3.0 innings.
  • Jackson Vanesko tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, while Jackson Harrigan surrendered one run on four hits over 2.1 innings.
  • Lane saw his 10-game hitting streak come to a close, while Damaurys Rodriguez saw his 10-game on-base streak snapped.

Key Moment (Game 2)

  • CCSU used a five-run second and a five-run fourth to open up an 11-1 lead.                            

How it Happened (Game 2)

  • CCSU took advantage of two Bryant errors in the second inning to score five runs. The second throwing error brought in a run and a second scored on a wild pitch. CCSU added three more on double, single and ground out.
  • Alex Lane got Bryant on the board in the top of the third with an opposite field home run.
  • The Blue Devils extended their lead with three run-scoring doubles in a five-run fourth.
  • CCSU would add three more in the eighth to close the scoring.  

Stats and Game Notes (Game 2)

  • Lane, John Tuccillo, Allen and DiTullio all had two hits for the Bulldogs.
  • Lane hit his team-leading sixth home run of the year.
  • Coleman Picard tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Liam LeVangie and Kyle Rizy each notched a scoreless inning of relief.
  • Bryant dropped its first NEC series since March 24-25, 2018. It marks just the fifth series the Bulldogs have lost since playing a full league schedule in 2010.
