SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant Ultimate Frisbee team participated in the DIII New England Regional Championships on Saturday, April 27th to Sunday the 28th against Brandeis University, Bates College, Colby College, and Middlebury College. This is one of the most important game yet because the winner of the group qualifies for nationals!

Final Scores:

  • Bryant: 11 vs Brandeis: 7
  • Bryant: 15 vs Bates: 7
  • Colby: 10 vs Bryant: 6
  • Middlebury:15 vs Bryant : 2
  • Bowdoin: 15 vs Bryant: 5

Game Info:

Game One vs Brandeis

  • The game was very windy and both teams started slow

  • Bulldogs jumped into an early lead by playing good defense

  • After halftime, the boys hit a rough patch and let Brandeis back into the game

  • Able to secure the victory by scoring some late points and obtained the victory

Game Two vs Bates

  • We struggled on offense early, allowing Bates to get an early lead

  • After we were able to score and play defensive points, we rallied and made the game close again

  • We started strong out of halftime and made a run to open the scoring up led by some great defensive plays by Billy Gordenstein

Game Three vs Colby

  • This game was another very windy game, with both teams struggling to score on offense

  • Colby started out very strong and took a commanding lead early in the game due to unforced errors on our part

  • They fought back by switching from our normal zone defense and instead of playing man-to-man

  • Josh Nunes made a fantastic defensive play to save a point, allowing them to score late in the game. Without this play, they would have finished 2nd in the group and had to play more games to qualify

  • Though they lost the game, they held the tiebreaker within our pool and qualified for the National Championship tournament

Sunday:

Game one vs Middlebury

  • This game was only for seeding purposes, so the boys decided to let the younger players gain experience

  • Most of their starting lineup sat out and many played very sparingly so they did not have many experienced players in the game

  • Alex Bzdel showed great progress throughout the game and played very well for a younger player

Game two vs Bowdoin:

  • This game was like the Middlebury game where they played the younger players

  • Bowdoin is a team they always have competitive games with that are very entertaining

  • Ryan Donovan made some great plays as one of the most experienced players on the field and did a great job facilitating play

Up Next:

  • The Ultimate team will be heading to nationals in Texas over the Bryant graduation weekend which is from the 17-19
