Guthro, Brackett earn weekly honors from the NEC

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Redshirt junior Dillon Guthro (Newburyport, Mass.) and freshman Andre Brackett (East Windsor, Conn.) were named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday after helping the Bryant University football team defeat Duquesne on Saturday.

Guthro and Brackett teamed to help the Bulldogs close the season with a 38-29 victory over one of the league's top offenses. Guthro earns his first-career defensive player of the week honor, while Brackett becomes the second different Bulldog to earn rookie of the week honors.

One of Bryant's co-captains, Guthro posted a career-high 10 tackles, collected three pass breakups, had a half sack and blocked a field goal against the Dukes. Nine of his 10 tackles were for three yards or less and he teamed with classmate and fellow co-captain Kevin Lazo (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) on a sack.

Brackett enjoyed a standout game against one of the league's best passing attacks, making four tackles, breaking up two passes and posting his second interception of the year. He posted an interception for the second-straight week, picking off Tommy Stuart at the Bryant 13 in the second quarter.

In addition to the player of the week honors, senior Tom Kennedy (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was recognized as a NEC Prime Performer. Kennedy finished his season with nine catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.
