Bryant hosts CCSU on Family and Friends Weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team returns to Beirne Stadium on Saturday afternoon as it welcomes defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut to Smithfield. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
 
Saturday will also be Bryant's Bulldogs vs. Breast Cancer game. A month-long initiative, Bulldogs vs. Breast Cancer is raising funds and awareness about the Gloria Gemma Cancer Research Foundation. For more information, click here.

Series History

  • Saturday will be the 11th meeting between Bryant and Central Connecticut. The Blue Devils lead the series, 6-4.
  • Bryant is 2-2 against CCSU in Smithfield, having won each of the last two at home. 
  • Last season, Bryant pulled within three points, 17-14, in the third quarter but a 76-yard TD run by Drew Jean-Guillaume shifted the momentum as CCSU held on for a 31-14 victory.  

20th Season of Bryant Football

  • Bryant Athletics is celebrating the "20th Season of Bryant Football" in 2018-19.
  • The Bulldogs began the program in 1998 and played their first varsity season in 1999.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs enter Saturday at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in NEC play. Bryant is currently in first place in the NEC standings. 
  • Bryant's 4-1 start matches the best five-game start in DI program history. The Bulldogs started the 2014 season 8-1. 
  • Last week, Bryant's defense posted five sacks, 11 TFLs and forced four turnovers in a 21-20 victory on the road at Duquesne. 
  • Thanks to the five sacks, the Black and Gold now lead the NEC and rank 10th nationally in sacks per game. 
  • Senior LB Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week after posting seven tackles, two sacks, including a strip sack and recovering a fumble at Duquesne. 
  • Costigan leads the NEC in tackles with 49 and also has three sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss. 
  • Junior Tomas Wright (St. Augustine, Fla.) posted three sacks and 4.5 TFLs last Saturday at Duquesne and is now the national leader in both categories. 
  • He has 7.5 sacks and 12.5 TFLs on the year, including 5.5 and 8.5, repspectively, in the last two games. 
  • Classmate Robert Brown (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) also filled up the stat sheet last Saturday, posting seven tackles, three TFLs, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. 
  • Redshirt senior QB Price Wilson (Marietta, Ga.) remains one of the nations top passers, ranking second nationally in TD passes (15), seventh in completions per game (25.8), 10th in yards per game (288.8) and 12th in points responsible for.
  • Senior Vincent Nisivoccia (Nutley, N.J.) caught his third TD of the year last weekend, a 51-yard score, and now leads the team with 12 plays of 20 yards or more on the season. 
  • Bryant leads the NEC in yards per game (429.2) and is second in the league in scoring (33.8).

A bit about the Blue Devils

  • Central Connecticut enters the weekend at 3-3 overall and 1-0 in NEC play after a 56-35 victory over Robert Morris last weekend. The Blue Devils put up an NEC-record 699 yards of total offense.
  • Last season, the Blue Devils became the first NEC team since 2008 to go undefeated in league play, claiming the NEC championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. 
  • CCSU is averaging 409 yards of total offense and 31.5 points per game. They are giving up 376 yards of total offense and 27 points per game. 
  • The Blue Devil offense is led by QB Jacob Dolegala and RB Drew Jean-Guillaume. Dolegala has complete 65 percent of his passes for 1,299 yards, eight TDs and just one interception. 
  • Jean-Guillaume is the reigning NEC Offensive Player of the Week after posting 157 rushing yards, 239 all-purpose yards and three TDs at Robert Morris. 
  • Tymir Hinton leads the team with 30 tackles. 

Gameday at Beirne Stadium

  • Fans can visit the Bryant Football Gameday page for all their gameday information.
  • Tailgating opens five (5) hours prior to kickoff and is allowed in Lots A and B adjacent to the Bulldog Strength and Conditioning Center.
  • The Bryant Athletics Student Tailgate opens at 10:00 a.m. and is in the front of Lot A.
  • Gates open at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Bulldogs vs. Breast Cancer

  • Saturday is Bryant football's Bulldogs vs. Breast Cancer game. 
  • Fans will be able to purchase T-shirts for $10 a piece with 100% of the proceeds going to the Gloria Gemma Foundation.
  • The Gloria Gemma Foundation will also have an educational materials at a table as fans enter the stadium.
