Wright named NEC Defensive Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football senior Tomas Wright (St. Augustine, Fla.) was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Wright posted seven tackles, 2.0 sacks, 4.5 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles in Bryant's victory over Long Island University on Saturday.

With the Bulldogs holding LIU to 3.7 yards per play, the defensive end led a unit that restricted the Sharks to 33 rush yards. The 6-foot-2 Floridian made four tackles on run plays, limiting the opposing ball carrier to net -2 yards on those four rushes. Two of his hits jarred the ball loose, but the offense recovered. He also logged 2.0 sacks and one quarterback hurry, including a clutch stop on LIU's final possession. With LIU facing a 2nd-and-8 from the Bryant 37-yard line in the game's final minute, Wright sacked Clay Beathard for a six-yard loss to help seal the win.

In addition, sophomore Daniel Adeboboye (Toronto, Ont.) was named a Prime Performer. Adeboboye rushed for a career-high 145 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries against LIU.
