Samperi named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football junior Luke Samperi (Beverly, Mass.) was named the Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

The honor is the second career weekly award for Samperi and comes after he kicked a pair of field goals and converted an onside kick in Bryant's 20-16 victory over Duquesne on Saturday.

Samperi kicked a 45-yard field goal to get the Bulldogs on the board and then broke a 3-3 tie with a career-long 50-yard field goal. It's the longest field goal by an NEC kicker this year and only the third of 50+ yards in school history. Moments later, Samperi hit a perfect onside kick that was recovered by the Bulldogs. Bryant scored two plays later to make it 12-3.

Samperi's 11 field goals are tied for the most in a single season in program history. He is 11-for-13 and ranks in the top 10 nationally in field goal percentage.

In addition, Robert Brown (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) and Andre Brackett (East Windsor, Conn.) were named #NECPrimePerformers. Brown tied the single-game record for tackles with 17, while Brackett posted a career-high 15 tackles to along with an interception, a forced fumble and an onside kick recovery.

Bryant closes the 2019 season this Saturday when it takes on Wagner. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
