Eckhaus finishes 4th in Jerry Rice Award voting

CHICAGO - Bryant University football freshman quarterback Zevi Eckhaus finished fourth in the voting for the 2021 Stats Perform Jerry Rice Award announced on Monday.

Eckhaus, the first Bulldog to ever be a finalist for the award, received three first-place votes and 54 total points. Jackson State's Shedeur Sanders won the award, receiving 169 points. It represents the highest finish for a Bryant player in a major award category.

The honor comes following a record-breaking season for the freshman from Culver City, California. Eckhaus started the final 10 games of the year, going 7-3 as a starter, helping the Black and Gold finish 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast Conference. He completed 233-of-371 passes for 2,392 yards, 21 touchdowns and just three interceptions on his way to becoming the first true freshman QB in NEC history to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and All-NEC First Team honors in the same season. Eckhaus posted four 300-yard passing games and threw multiple touchdown passes in each of the last eight games of 2021.
