A native of Somerset, Massachusetts, Charlie Phillips begins his third season as a member of coach Fine's staff. Phillips will continue to coach the team's wide receivers in 2007. Last year, Bryant's passing offense was one of the tops in the nation, averaging 179.5 yards per game.
Phillips came to Bryant from Bishop Feehan High School in nearby North Attleboro, Mass. where he coached the running backs and secondary for the 2004 Eastern Athletic Conference Champion and Eastern Mass. Division 2A SuperBowl Champion Shamrocks.
A 1979 graduate of Somerset High School where he was a three-sport letterwinner in football, baseball and basketball, Phillips would continue his football career at Union College in Schenectady, NY where he was a tailback from 1979-81.
Following a one year coaching stint at Bishop Stang High School in 1985, Phillips returned to Somerset as the head coach at North Middle School and Junior High School from 1986-1991.
In 1992, he moved up to Somerset High School where he coached until 2001. While at Somerset, Phillips coached a variety of positions, including secondary, linebackers, running backs, and defensive ends.
In 2003, Phillips coached the offensive line and linebackers at Taunton High School (Mass.). Phillips resides in Fall River, Mass. with his wife Jennifer and his two children Carlie (12) and Christopher (8).
