One of the top football coaches in Rhode Island, Jay Monteiro begins his fifth season coaching the Bryant linebackers in 2009.
Monteiro has been on the Bryant staff since the 2004 season and has helped guide the Bulldogs to a pair of Northeast-10 Conference titles and two appearances in the NCAA playoffs. In 2008, Bryant posted a 7-4 record in its first year competing at the Division I level.  The Bulldogs finished the year ranked 16th
A former assistant at East Providence High School, Monteiro brings a wealth of coaching experience - primarily in the areas of defense and strength & conditioning to the Bryant program.
Since 1989, Monteiro served as the school's defensive coordinator with a focus on the secondary and linebackers. In addition, he also assisted in coaching the running backs and receivers.
During his 16 seasons (1989-2004), East Providence appeared in six state championship games in Rhode Island's top division, coming away with four state titles during those six appearances (1997, 1999, 2002, 2003). The 1999 East Providence team was ranked as high as No. 2 in New England.
Off the field of play, the weight program Monteiro helped implement at East Providence gained national attention with a feature in the BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER publication in the summer of 2003.
A 1989 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Monteiro was a member of the Rams' football team from 1985-87. He was also the
Defensive Coordinator for the Rhode Island all-state team in
2000, and a defensive backs coach in 2003.
