Former Stony Brook running back and quarterback Keith Cherney
recently completed his first year coaching the Bryant University
receivers in 2009. The Bulldogs averaged 155.3 yards
passing on the season with tight end Matt Tracey earning All-NEC
honors with a team-high 35 receptions.
Cherney comes to Bryant from Utica College where he was an
assistant coach for four seasons coaching the Pioneers' wide
receivers as well as serving as the team's special teams
coordinator. While at Utica, Cherney coached All-Empire 8
selection James Proniewich, who finished his career as the holder
of all school receiving records. Prior to his time at Utica,
Cherney spent one season on the coaching staff at his alma mater,
coaching the tight ends at Stony Brook University.
A 2005 graduate of Stony Brook with a degree in history, Cherney
played three seasons at running back and quarterback for the
Seawolves. He also coached the tight ends for one season.
A native of Manchester, N.J., Cherney was a standout quarterback at
Manchester High School. As a senior, he threw for more
than 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns in earning third team all-state,
second team all-county and first team all-conference
honors.
