Bulldogs fall to Boston University, 4-0, in season opener.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bryant University field hockey team allowed just one first-half goal to 16th ranked Boston University, but could not muster a comeback as they fell to the Terriers, 4-0, on Friday night at New Balance Field in Boston.

COACH DE VRIES' COMMENTS

"First of all, I would like to congratulate BU with their win," Bryant head coach Joppe de Vries said. "They are a well-coached team. They had a lot of pressure on us and we sustained the first half. The second half, we were constantly a step too late and therefore there were a lot of turnovers, but I am very pleased with how the team played in spurts. We're going to take the positives from this game and get ready to play Northeastern."

KEY MOMENT

●     BU's second goal put a lot of pressure on the Bulldogs, which allowed the Terriers to play more aggressively and earn seven corners in the second half. Boston freshman Petra Hall scored off a corner from the top of the circle.

SCORING SUMMARY

●     30th minute -- BU 1, Bryant 0 -- Miya Denison gathered a deflected ball, moved to the right of the cage and put the ball past sophomore Miranda Grundy (Smithfield, Rhode Island).

●     43rd minute -- BU 2, Bryant 0 -- Hall's goal came off of a BU corner, tipping a shot from Bridget Egan into the cage.

●     52nd minute -- BU 3, Bryant 0 -- Ailsa Connolly fired in from the center of the circle after receiving a pass from Grace Boston.

●     60th minute -- BU 4, Bryant 0 -- Hall scored again off of a redirect from the right side, putting the ball into the right of the cage.

STATS/NOTES

●     This was the first game against BU in program history.

●     This was also the first time Bryant has opened the season against a ranked opponent since joining Division I.

●     Miranda Grundy made six stops in the contest, setting a career-high. The sophomore goalie stopped three shots in each half.

●     Sophomore Keighan Richardson (North Attleboro, Massachusetts) fired a shot from inside the circle but was turned away by BU goalkeeper Kathleen Keegan.

UP NEXT

Bryant will play in the consolation game of the Terrier Classic on Sunday when they take on the Northeastern Huskies at 1 p.m. This will be the first-ever matchup between the Huskies and Bulldogs.
