Drexel tops Bryant in Philadelphia, 4-0

PHILADELPHIA – Despite 11 saves from freshman goalkeeper Lyndsay Swanston (Burlington, Ontario), the Bryant Bulldogs fell to the Drexel Dragons on Sunday afternoon, 4-0, at Buckley Field in Philadelphia.

COACH DE VRIES' COMMENTS

"We played hard defense," Bryant head coach Joppe de Vries said. "We will grow from this, I'm sure. If we are patient and concentrated, we will be able to keep opponents away from our goal. Unfortunately, the goals against us were from a lack of concentration on our end. We will work to improve this over the next week of practice."

KEY MOMENT

With less than three minutes remaining in the first half, Drexel's Chandler McFeeley scored on a deflected shot from Tess Horan. The goal gave Drexel momentum moving into the half, and they would score three-second half goals to ice the game.

SCORING SUMMARY

• 33rd minute – Drexel 1, Bryant 0 – McFeeley's score game from a shot at the circle by Tess Horan, the Dragon's leading scorer. McFeeley was able to redirect the shot to steal a score heading into the half.
• 51st minute – Drexel 2, Bryant 0 – Katie Bagdon scored the second Drexel goal on a penalty stroke after getting fouled in the circle during a shot attempt. It was the second stroke of the game for the Dragons, squandering their first opportunity.
• 59th minute – Drexel 3, Bryant 0 – Reilly Finegan scored for the Dragons after a Tess Bernheimer shot was blocked by Keighan Richardson (North Attleboro, Mass.). Finegan collected the rebound and beat Swanston to extend the Dragons lead to three.
• 70th minute – Drexel 4, Bryant 0 – Katie Ronan got on the board after the final buzzer sounded. Drexel was a penalty corner with 20 seconds left in regulation, which allowed play to continue after the horn sounded. After getting called for another corner after the 70th minute, Bryant allowed Ronan's goal to come after initially blocking a shot attempt from Delaney Baxendall.

STATS/NOTES

• Swanston's 11 saves were most in a game by a Bulldog since Oct. 9 of last season, when Melissa Elizardo stopped 13 shots at Rider.
• Freshman Ally Burdick (Cambridge, N.Y.) had Bryant's lone shots on goal, sending two to the net. Drexel's Erin Gilchrest collected saves on each attempt.
• Bryant moves to 1-5 in road games this season, with their win coming at the shared Goldberger Family Field against Brown.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs are back in action in one week, taking on Yale on Sun., Oct. 8. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start and will be played at Yale's Johnson Field.
