Bryant shuts out Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Bryant University field hockey team posted their second win of the season by shutting out Colgate, 2-0.

Records: Colgate 2-5, Bryant 2-6

Location: Tyler's Field (Hamilton, N.Y.)

Coach de Vries' Comments

"I'm very happy with the win as it was very hot and Colgate really played well. We kept our goals clean but we have to play with more belief when we are on the ball."

Key Moment

In the 25th minute of play, Kylie Nelson (Searsmont, Maine) had a breakaway opportunity which pulled Colgate's goalkeeper to come out of the cage. Nelson's shot hit the far post but Ally Burdick (Cambridge, N.Y.) darts into the crease to put the ball away for the first Bryant goal of the game. The momentum that the Bulldogs gained after the goal was the difference in the 2-0 victory.

Scoring Summaries

  • 25' – Bryant 1, Colgate 0 – Nelson shot the ball passed the Colgate keeper but the ball hit the far post. Burdick got the rebound and blasted the ball into the back of the net to give the Bulldogs the lead.
  • 64' – Bryant 2, Colgate 0 – During Bryant's fifth penalty corner of the game, the aggressive Bulldog offense was putting pressure on the Raider's defense by getting multiple opportunities for a goal. With the Colgate keeper out of position, Eva Bazen (The Hague, Netherlands) found Nelson in front of the goal and she was able to poke the ball in the cage to further Bryant's lead.
