Tough fight wasn't enough against No. 12 Harvard

BOSTON, MASS. – The Bryant University field hockey team fought hard against No. 12 Harvard but fell short, 2-0, late Sunday afternoon.

Coach de Vries' Comments

"We played with a lot of heart and I can only say how proud I am with how they came out and competed. Moving forward we start conference play next week and this is a good preparation for that. I am a strong believer that if your defense is solid then it's a lot easier to try and be opportunistic and get something with the field upfront. Congratulations to Harvard and I hope we will be seeing them again."

Key Moment

• During the 20^th minute of play, Harvard was granted a penalty corner. Casey Allen took the corner for the Crimson and passed the ball to Emily Duarte. Duarte set Olivia Allin up at the top of the circle for the first goal of the game in which the Bulldogs were not able to recover from.

Scoring Summary

• 20' – Harvard 1, Bryant 0 – Off of a penalty corner, Harvard's Allen passed the ball Duarte at the top of the circle. Duarte set the ball up for Allin who fired the ball into the back of the net.
• 40' – Harvard 2, Bryant 0 – After the ball went out of bounds, Harvard took a long hit and got the ball to Rachel Greenwood. Greenwood dribbled around the Bryant defenders and popped the ball up and over the keeper to expand their lead.

Stats/Notes

• Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) saw a total of 16 shots on goal and stopped 13 of them.
• Leyna DiMarco (Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied a defensive save during Harvard's first penalty corner. DiMarco batted the ball down off of a high shot denying the Crimson a goal.
• Harvard outshot the Bulldogs 31-0 while putting 16 of those shots on frame.
• The Bulldogs did not take a penalty corner all game as the Crimson took a total of 10.
