Bryant welcomes Sacred Heart on Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team resumes conference play as they host Sacred Heart on the campus of Providence College on Friday at 4 p.m. Friday's meeting will also be Bryant field hockey's pink game. Join us in the fight to raise funds and awareness in support of the Gloria Gemma Foundation. Official Bulldogs vs Breast Cancer t-shirts will be available for purchase for just $10, with 100% of the proceeds going to Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

Series History

  • Friday marks the seventh time that the two teams have met as Sacred Heart holds the series record, 5-1.
  • Last season the Bulldogs fell to the Pioneers, 2-1, with Freya Ward (West Sussex, England) scoring the lone Bryant goal.

A bit about the Huskies

  • Colleen McAninley leads the Pioneers with 13 points, five goals, and three assists. McAninley's last goal came in Sacred Heart's 2-1 loss to Yale on Sept. 23.
  • Sacred Heart gives minutes to three different goalkeepers with the majority of minutes going to sophomore keeper Hailey Power. Power has made 87 saves so far this season and ranks fourth in the country with a .798 save percentage. She also ranks third in the country and first in the conference with 8.70 saves per game.
  •  Allie Brouhard has tallied four defensive saves on the season which places the senior at fourth in the country and first in the conference for the statistic.
  • Sydney Van Der Merwe leads the Pioneers in his second season.

Bryant Notes and Notables

  • Sophomore Ally Burdick (Cambridge, N.Y.) is the current leading scorer for the Bulldogs with three goals. Most recently Burdick netted a goal during the team's 6-2 loss to Monmouth on Friday.
  • Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) was one save away last game from tying her career high of 13 saves in a game. On Tuesday, Jaarsma stopped 12 shots making her save percentage .781 so far for the season.
  • Freshman Brittany Gouws (Cape Town, South Africa) leads the team with two defensive saves.
