Bulldogs blanked by Drexel in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bryant University field hockey team fell, 6-0, in its final game in the City of Brotherly Love on Sunday afternoon.

COACH DE VRIES COMMENTS
"It was a very tough game," said head coach Joppe de Vries. "We came out slow and the opportunities we got were stopped by a great goal keeper. We know what we need to fix and that's what we are going to do."

KEY MOMENT

  • Drexel notched two goals early in the first quarter to, not only give them the lead, but give the Dragons the momentum to maintain the lead for the entirety of the game.

SCORING SUMMARY

  • 7' – After a series of penalty corners for Drexel, Tess Horan fired a shot from the top of the circle. Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) made the save and deflected the ball back into play. Drexel's Emily Owens found the deflection and sent it into the back of the cage for the first goal of the game, 1-0.
  • 12' – The Dragons fired back-to-back shots at the Bulldogs. Horan found the loose ball and passed it to Avery Powell in front of the cage who was able to tap it over the line, 2-0.
  • 17' – In the first two minutes of the second quarter, Powell passed the ball up ahead to Cailey Lever in the circle. Lever fired a shot past Jaarsma to widen the margin, 3-0.
  • 32' – Tess Bernheimer served the ball off a penalty corner to Katie Bagdon at the top of the circle. Bagdon controlled the ball for Puk Thewessen to fire a shot into the cage, 4-0.
  • 42' – Drexel notched its second goal of the third quarter in the same fashion as its first. Bernheimer served the ball off a penalty corner to Bagdon. Thewessen shot the ball from the top of the circle for her second goal of the game.
  • 51' – Bernheimer served the ball on Drexel's last and 15th penalty corner of the game. Isabel Jacobs controlled the ball for Bagdon who slammed it home for the final goal of the game, 6-0.   

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Senior Clare Luttrell (Freehold, N.J.) led the Bulldogs with two shots and one on goal. Taryn Rauff (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Isa Oldekamp (Rotterdam, Netherlands) also notched a shot on frame.
  • Oldekamp tallied her second defensive save of her career.
  • Jaarsma faced 16 shots and saved nine while in between the posts.
  • Drexel outshot the Bulldogs, 25-5.
  • The Bulldogs took just two penalty corners compared to Drexel's 15.
  • Bryant falls to 0-3 all-time against the Dragons.

UP NEXT
Bryant hosts Hofstra on Friday, Sept. 20 for the Bulldogs home opener at Brown University. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start.
