New Hampshire blanks Bulldogs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team was unable to recover from New Hampshire's early goal as the Bulldogs fell, 4-0, Friday evening.

KEY MOMENT

• The Wildcats gained an early lead in the first quarter when Ava Mariani netted the first goal of the game. The early goal shifted the momentum to New Hampshire's favor as they withheld the lead for the rest of the game.

SCORING SUMMARY

• 1' – Mariani intercepted the ball at midfield and carried it by herself into the middle of the circle to give New Hampshire a quick lead, 1-0.
• 31' – In the third quarter, the Wildcats took their third penalty corner of the game. Both Finn Caron and Kayla Sliz fired shots at Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) who made back-to-back saves. Isabelle Danahy took advantage of the loose ball on the far post and tapped it over the line for the second goal of the game, 2-0.
• 35' – Just four minutes later, the Wildcats attempted their fourth penalty corner. Caron inserted the ball to Maura Verleg at the top of the circle. Verleg set the ball for Bloem van den Brekel who sent a shot through the Bryant defense as New Hampshire continued to widen the margin, 3-0.
• 50' – Five minutes into the fourth quarter, Bailey Fanikos fought to maintain possession in Bryant's defensive half. Fanikos took the ball into the circle and immediately fired a shot into the cage for the final goal of the night, 4-0.  

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

• Three Bulldogs put shots on target including Kylie Nelson (Belfast, Maine), Taryn Rauff (Johannesburg, South Africa), and Isa Oldekamp (Rotterdam, Netherlands).
• Oldekamp's shot now ranks her first among the Bulldog squad with 14 shots on the year and 10 on goal.
• Ally Burdick (Cambridge, N.Y.) was the only other Bulldog to post a shot.
• Jaarsma stopped four in between the posts.
• Bryant was outshot, 17-5.
• The Bulldogs fall to 0-4 all-time against the Wildcats.
