THE GAME
Bryant hosts Franklin Pierce this Saturday for a Northeast-10 Conference tournament first round game. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m. at the Chace Athletic Center. Bryant is the the No. 6 seed of the tournament while Franklin Pierce is the 11th. The winner of the game will advance to the quarterfinals and face third-seed Saint Anselm on Monday, Feb. 28 in Manchester, N.H. The semifinals will take place on Thursday, Mar. 3 with the championship scheduled for Saturday, March 5. All tourney games will take place at campus sites. Bentley is the No. 1 seed followed by Saint Rose at No. 2 and Southern N.H. earning the fourth-seed of the tournament. The Northeast-10 Conference champion will receive and automatic bid into the NCAA Division II tournament.
BRYANT UPDATE
This will be the second meeting of the year between Bryant and Franklin Pierce, with the Bulldogs winning, 68-56 back on Jan. 29 at the Chace Athletic Center. Bryant (19-7, 15-7 NE-10) has won 12 of its last 13 with the lone loss coming at Bentley College on Feb. 19. This is the third-straight trip to the Northeast-10 Conference tournament and 15th all-time. Last year, Bryant defeated American International in the first round, 76-64 and traveled to Le Moyne for the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs upset the Dolphins, 72-65 but would fall to UMass Lowell in the semifinals 68-47. Two years ago (2002-03), Bryant qualified for the Northeast-10 tournament, but fell at home to Franklin Pierce, 74-70. Junior John Williams leads the way this year for the Bulldogs with 19.3 ppg while Mario Correia is second with 14.2 ppg. Dan Hammond had a school record 9 steals vs. Merrimack Monday.

The Ravens enter Saturday’s game with a 9-18 overall record and 7-15 mark in the Northeast-10. Led by Mitchell Johnson’s 14.5 points per game average, the Ravens are averaging 70.0 points per game as a team and shooting just 68.2 percent from the free throw line. Justin Powell is second on the team with 13.3 ppg and 5. 3 rebounds per game while Pierre Sully is next at 10.2 ppg. Johnson is the Ravens’ best threat from the outside as the 6-foot-5 freshman has made 78 of 219 three-point field goal attempts this year.
HAMMOND SETS NEW SCHOOL RECORD FOR STEALS
Sophomore forward Dan Hammond (Brunswick, Maine) set a new school record with nine steals in Monday’s win at Merrimack. Hammond tied the school record with six in the first half alone and finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds in Bryant’s 73-49 win over the Warriors.
CORREIA EARNS WEEKLY HONOR
Senior guard Mario Correia (Brockton, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for Feb. 14, the first such honor for a Bryant basketball player this season. Correia had a career-high 28 points and eight rebounds in the team’s win over No. 24 Saint Anselm on Saturday. He had 21 points plus eight rebounds in the team’s win at Le Moyne on Tuesday night. For the week, Correia averaged 24.5 ppg on 20 of 40 shooting in two games, made 6 of 11 three-point attempts. In Wednesday’s game at Saint Michael’s, Correia had 22 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals.
JOHN WILLIAMS APPROACHING SCHOOL 3-POINT MARK
Junior guard John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) needs only TWO 3-point field goals to break Romuald Augustin’s school single season record of 87 three’s set last season. Williams has a person-best 86 three’s this year.
