Grant named to Lou Henson Award watch list

BOSTON – Bryant University men's basketball senior Adam Grant (Franklin, Va.) has been named to the Lou Henson Award Midseason Watch List for the nation's top mid-major player, as announced Thursday by College Insider.

Grant ranks second in the Northeast Conference at 19.7 points per game through the first 15 games of his senior campaign. The Virginia native's 56 made three-pointers rank seventh nationally as of Friday, as Grant has added 18 triples to that total over his last three games. Grant has 10 games of 20 or more points this season including both NEC contests and games against Big Ten members Rutgers and Maryland.

The senior guard enters the weekend with 1,612 career points, placing him 79 shy of Dyami Starks for second in Bryant's Division I history. Grant's 251 career three-pointers rank 17th in Northeast Conference history.

The award honors Lou Henson, the former Illinois and New Mexico State coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons. Henson is the winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories. During his 21 seasons (1975-1996), Henson led the Fighting Illini to 16 postseason appearances, including 12 NCAA tournaments and a Final Four appearance in 1989.

Henson, who is also the all-time winningest coach in New Mexico State history with 289 victories, is one of only 11 coaches to take two different schools to the NCAA Final Four. His teams have made 19 NCAA appearances and four NIT appearances.

Bryant returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. when the Bulldogs host Mount St. Mary's at the Chace Athletic Center. Tickets are available through Bryant's Holiday Hoops promotion by clicking HERE.
