Luis Hurtado joins Grasso's third signing class

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head men's basketball coach Jared Grasso has added to his 2020 signing class with the addition of Luis Hurtado (Merida, Venezuela).

"Luis is a skilled passer and shooter and has terrific size which allows him to play multiple positions," said Grasso. "He's a playmaker with a great basketball IQ. He is a terrific young man who has had great resilience throughout his career."

Hurtado joins the Black & Gold after playing two seasons at UAB, appearing in 15 games. The 6-foot-6 Venezuelan redshirted in his first season in Birmingham before playing in six contests in 2018-19 and nine games in 2019-20.

Hurtado was given UAB's Flame on Courage award following the 2019-20 season, presented to student-athletes who have overcome adversity by demonstrating courage and perseverance.

Ranked as No. 36 at his position in high school by Rivals, Hurtado garnered more than a half-dozen offers from FBS-conference programs during his initial recruiting process.

Hurtado is part of a seven-member signing class for Grasso's third season in Smithfield, joining Erickson Bans (Pawtucket, R.I.), Chris Childs (Bronx, N.Y.), Melo Eggleston (Suitland, Md.), Darius Guinn (Portland, Ore.), Joe Moon (Westland, Mich.) and Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y.).

Bryant will begin its 2020-21 campaign Tuesday, Nov. 10. Full schedule and ticketing information for the upcoming season will be available this summer.
