Childs sparks second-half surge as Bryant beats Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Chris Childs scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half and the Bryant University men's basketball team defeated Brown University for the first time since 2013, 65-59, on Black Friday at the Pizzitola Center in Providence.

Childs hit three three-pointers in the final five minutes as the Bulldogs used a 10-0 run to jump in front of the Bears for good. Bryant's defense did the rest, holding the Bears to just two field goals over the final eight minutes. Childs was one of four Bulldogs in double figures, finishing with 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three.

Peter Kiss led Bryant with 16 points and six assists, Adham Eleeda scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, and Hall Elisias finished with 13 points, six boards and four blocks.

Bryant's victory on Friday was its first over Brown since 2013 and its first at the Pizzitola Center since 2012 and just its second ever in Providence.

How it Happened

• Bryant opened with a strong push as Kiss hit a corner jumper and Eleeda swished a three from the top to make it 5-2 early.
• Brown, however, used a 9-0 run to take a 15-7 lead at the under-12 timeout. The Bears forced three Bryant turnovers during the stretch.  
• The Bears would grow their lead to 10, 21-11, at the under-8. Brown held Brown to 4-of-11 shooting and outscored Bryant 16-2 in the paint to start.
• Bryant found its footing over the final eight minutes, outscoring Brown, 16-9. An Eleeda three pulled Bryant with 21-15 and Bryant benefited from a paif of flagrant fouls to can four free throws.
• Kiss closed the first half by drilling a deep jumper as the horn sounded to send the Bulldogs into the locker room down three, 30-27.
• Bryant scratched its way back into the game, taking a 38-37 lead with 16:15 left in the game. Elisias canned two free throws and then finished at the cup to give the Buldogs their first lead since 7-6.
• Tied 40-40, the Bears used a 7-0 run to take a 47-40 lead. Bryant answered with basket from Kiss and a three from Eleeda to make it 47-45.
• Bryant then grabbed the lead with a 10-0 run that was capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Childs. Elisias made two free throws to tie the game and Childs followed with a step-back triple from the left corner. Moments later, Childs worked himself free with a beautiful cut and rippled the twine from the right wing, making it 55-49 with 4:50 remaining.
• The Bears closed the Bryant lead to one with 3:57 left but Kiss drilled a three from the right corner. Childs then hit a huge three from the top, with his shot hitting the rim, bouncing high and falling through with 1:43 left (63-56).
• The Bulldogs' defense also locked in, holding Brown to just two field goals over the final eight minutes.

• Bryant finished the game 22-of-52 (42.3 percent) from the field, 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from three and 12-of-18 (66.7) from the free throw line.
• The Bulldogs were outrebounded, 50-32.
• Bryant held Brown to 10-of-34 shooting in the second half. Over the final eight minutes, Bryant held Brown to 2-of-15 shooting.
