Bryant extends streak to six, beats LIU Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Peter Kiss posted his fourth 30-point game of the season and the Bryant University men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 88-81 victory over Long Island University on Sunday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.

With the win, the Bulldogs have now won six-straight games and are 9-1 in the Northeast Conference. Bryant has now won 13-straight NEC regular-season home games and is 18-2 at home over the last two seasons.

Kiss, who played the final 24 minutes with four fouls, scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the second half. He finished 9-of-18 from the field and 11-of-14 from the line. Adham Eleeda added 17 points and eight rebounds, Charles Pride chipped in 12 points, six boards and five assists and Greg Calixte had eight points and 11 rebounds in his first start of the year.

How it Happened

  • LIU jumped out to an 11-6 lead on Sunday before the Kiss scored four-straight points to make it 12-11.
  • The Sharkes regained the lead but Luis Hurtado Jr. hit back-to-back threes from each side of the arc to make it 18-16 with 10:12 to go.
  • Bryant's lead stood at four with under a minute to go but Eleeda and Erickson Bans changed things quickly. Eleeda came off a screen to hit a catch-and-shoot three, while Bans beat the first-half buzzer. Bans caught a long pass at midcourt, moved between two defenders and then let a runner go from 30 feet that found nothing but the bottom of the net.
  • The Sharks were able to tie the game at 42-42 with a 13-3 run to open the second half.
  • The game-tying dunk by Kyndall Davis, however, ended in a technical foul for taunting and Eleeda hit the ensuing free throw to break the final tie of the afternoon.
  • Pride followed with a floater in the lane and Eleeda hit a three from the top to make it 48-42.
  • It started a 13-2 run that included three more technical free throws for the Bulldogs.
  • LIU would come to within four but Kiss hit a turnaround shot in the lane and completed the three-point play to make it 59-52 with 9:25 to go.
  • Dunks from Calixte and Kiss were followed by an Eleeda three to make it 77-66 with 1:55 to go.  
  • Bryant made 9-of-10 from the line down the stretch to close it out.

  • Bryant finished 25-of-62 (40.3 percent) from the field, 9-of-33 (27.3 percent) from three and 29-of-37 (78.4 percent) from the line.
  • The Sharks earned a 48-47 lead on the boards.
