Bulldogs second, Tombs third after first two rounds of Connecticut Cup

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After the first two rounds of the 2016 Connecticut Cup, played Monday at Ellington Ridge Country Club, the Bryant University golf team sits second in the field with senior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) entering the final round of action in third overall.

Tombs carded a two-over 146 with identical rounds of 73 on Monday, one stroke behind current second-place golfer Luke Graboyes of Cornell and three behind leader Matt Maumec of Boston College.

As a team, the Bulldogs scored a 596 (+20), seven strokes behind Boston College and three ahead of Siena for second among the 15 teams. Bryant carded a 297 in the second round, besting its first-lap score by two strokes.

Behind Tombs, freshman Will Del Biaggio (San Jose, Calif.) enters Tuesday play tied for 24th in the individual standings with a 151 (77-74, +7). Classmate Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) is two strokes beyond Del Biaggio and is tied for 35th with a 153 despite an opening-round 71, while seniors McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) and John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) are tied for 50th with two-round 156s. Stafford's 71 was the top round for any Bulldog on the day.

Sophomore Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) competed as an individual and is currently tied for 20th after consecutive rounds of 75 (150, +4).

The Bulldogs wrap up Connecticut Cup play on Tuesday.
