Stafford has career round to place in top 20 at Hartford Hawks Invitational

SOUTH KENT, Conn. – The Bryant University men's golf team placed 11th out of 20 teams at the Hartford Hawks Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Bull's Bridge Golf Club. Sophomore Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) carded a career-best 68 in the second round to post a top-20 finish.

COACH BLANCHARD'S COMMENTS
 "Matthew Stafford and Ryan Brown led the way with solid play all three rounds. Stafford ended up even overall after shooting a 74 following a college career-best 68 in the second round. Ryan Brown continues steady play with a five-under on the back nine including an eagle and three birdies to finish the tournament at one-over. Roberts and Henderson rounded out the top four scores with solid playing for the three rounds."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bulldogs placed 11th with a score of 884, 48 strokes back of team champion UCF. The Knights took the team title by 25 strokes over Seton Hall.
  • Sophomore Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) posted a top-20 finish with a 216 (E). Stafford carded a second-round 68 and a 74 in the third round.
  • Junior Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) finished tied for 27th with a 218 (+2). Brown shot a 71 in the second round and a 70 in the third.
  • Graduate John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) tied for 53rd with a 224 (+8). Roberts carded a 74 and 78 Tuesday.
  • Sophomore Connor Henderson (Southborough, Mass.) and freshman Erik MacDonald (Braintree, Mass.) rounded out the scoring. Henderson shot a 74 and 77, while MacDonald shot 76 and 78.
  • Sophomore Andrew Warfield (Southborough, Mass.) was also in action, carding a 78 and 74 Tuesday.
