Bryant blanks CCSU, 4-0, for 4th-straight win

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals and ran its win streak to four games with a 4-0 victory over Central Connecticut on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Jake Spaulding (Topsfield, Mass.) scored his first career goal and finished with three points, while sophomore Ben Williams (Unionville, Ontario) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

"I thought it was a good win. I thought we made it difficult on ourselves at times. At home, against a conference team, to win 4-0 is a good day. Our confidence is high now. We've focused on being tough, being dominant and being ruthless."

• After continued pressure, Williams was finally able to break through as he tucked a shot inside the right post to finish off a gorgeous build up in the 36th minute.   

Scoring Summary

• 36th minute – Bryant 1, CCSU 0 – Bryant pushed the ball forward and Spaulding was able to feed a perfect pass between two defenders. Williams collected the pass and walked in undefended and was able to slip a shot into the lower right corner.
• 66th minute – Bryant 2, CCSU 0 – Victor Rey (Lincoln, R.I.) converted a penalty for the Black and Gold. He slotted it in the lower left corner.
• 73rd minute – Bryant 3, CCSU 0 – Zachary Valckenaere (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took a corner kick and placed it perfectly for Spaulding to head home.
• 88th minute – Bryant 4, CCSU 0 – Anthony Barreira (Foxboro, Mass.) took a feed 40 yards out and dribbled his way through the defense before hammering the ball into the top left corner.

Stats/Notes

• Bryant improves to 8-5-2 vs. Central Connecticut.  
• The Black and Gold have now won four-straight matches at home and four-straight overall.
• It is the first time in DI program history that Bryant has won four-straight matches.
• Bryant outshot CCSU, 29-7.
• Williams scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season. The five goals are a new career high.
• Williams has now scored in each of the last two games.
• Spaulding registered his first-career goal and first-career assist.  
• Rey's goal was his first since his freshman season.
• Barreira also scored for the first time since his rookie campaign.
• Olivier Larente (LaSalle, Montreal, Quebec) made one save to post his second-straight shutout.
