Lyne lifts Bulldogs on Senior Day, 1-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Trevor Lyne (Feeding Hills, Mass.) picked the perfect time to score his first-career goal as his strike in the 50th minute propelled the Bryant University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

Lyne was one of 11 seniors honored in a pregame ceremony and his curling goal helped Bryant inch closer to a second-straight Northeast Conference playoff spot.

Coach Purcell's Comment

"It was a brilliant effort by the 11 seniors. Alex Eby hasn't played in two years and comes out and puts in a stellar performance. Gutsy performance. We battled hard defensively. We've been great at home. It was a bit nerve-wracking at the end but I think we deserved to win. Good win and let's hope that gets us in the playoffs."

• 50th minute – Bryant 1, FDU 0 – Charles DeSantis (Saint-Mathias-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec) fed Lyne and the senior curled a shot into the far right corner to make it 1-0.    

Stats/Notes

• Bryant is now 5-4-2 all-time against FDU.
• The Knights outshot the Bulldogs, 10-9.
• Bryant's eight wins are the second most in DI program history.
• Bryant finished the season 6-1 at home, winning each of its final six games. The six wins are tied for the most home wins in DI program history (6-1-2, 2014).
• Bryant now has 15 points and sits in third place. The Bulldogs are five points ahead of Robert Morris, six ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn and seven ahead of Mount St. Mary's.
• Bryant started all 11 seniors that were honored pregame.  
• Lyne's goal was the first of his career.
• DeSantis registered his first assist of the season and the second of his career.
• Will Swart (Little Compton, R.I.) made third saves to earn his second collegiate victory. His second save came at point blank range with two minutes remaining.
