Mays representing Bryant at FINA World Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team is well represented at the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Hangzhou, China, as sophomore Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) and 2018 alum Benjamin Schulte are competing.

Mays is representing the Virgin Islands National Team, while Schulte is once again swimming for his home country of Guam.

"This is a great honor and accomplishment for Matt," head coach Katie Cameron said. "We are excited for him to have this opportunity and to represent the Virgin Islands and Bryant University."

Mays will swim in both the 100 back and 200 back events. He has won both events all but twice this season. This will also be the second time that Mays will be competing at a FINA sanctioned event following his appearance in the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.

Schulte graduated from Bryant in May as one of the most accomplished swimmers in program history. He has represented Guam in the Olympics twice, serving as the flag bearer during the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
