Bulldogs in second after day one of MAACs

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team won the 200 medley relay Wednesday night and finds itself in second place after the first day of the 2019 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Erie Community College.

Bryant scored 116 points on the first day and is in second place. Rider is in first with 125 points.

Coach Cameron's Comments

"I am so proud of the men's medley relay! It is a great way to start the championships off. Both relays were so impressive."

Day One Highlights

  • The Bulldogs opened the championships in scintillating fashion, winning the 200 medley relay for the second time in program history. Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) opened, Tavish Boyle (Springfield, N.J.) followed, Micah Ornelas (San Diego, Calif.) swam third and Matt Zichelli (Glen Ridge, N.J.) closed out the victory. The quartet finished in 1:28.11.
  • The excitement continued into the 1-meter dive as Trevor Hazlewood (Corpus Christi, Texas) became the first male diver in program history to medal. He finished third with a score of 259.20, just four points out of first.
  • Kevin Sullivan (East Lyme, Conn.) also reached the 'A' final in the 1-meter, finishing eighth.

Notes and Notables

  • Bryant last won the 200 medley relay in 2017. That victory in 2017 was Bryant's first-ever relay victory at the MAAC Championships.
  • Hazlewood and Sullivan have now reached the 'A' final in each of the last two years. They are the only male divers in program history to accomplish the feat.
  • Benjamin Prouty (East Lyme, Conn.) and Evan Clark (Doylestown, Pa.) finished 1-2 in the 'B' final.
