Bulldogs top Navy, 5-2, on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team battled its way to its second-straight win, after defeating Navy, 5-2, on Sunday morning.

The Bulldogs (4-4) captured the doubles point, following Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) and Luke Lorenz's (Colorado Springs, Colo.) win at No.1 doubles, 6-0, and Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and Josh Kliger's (Newport Beach, Calif.) success at No. 2 doubles, 6-1.

The Bulldogs solidified their 5-2 victory, after victories at No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles. Freshman Guido Argentini (Boca Raton, Fla.) moved passed Thomas Pecor, 6-3, 7-6, while Kliger beat Krishna Jana at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4. After losing the first game, 6-3, Lorenz bounced back to trump Gabriel Pilones, 7-5, 6-2, in the final two games. Sophomore Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas) topped Ian Landwehr, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

"It was a satisfying win against Navy," said head coach Ron Gendron. "I was pleased with the effort and attitude.  We will need a little more for our upcoming weekend."

Looking forward, the Bulldogs face St. John's, Stony Brook, NJIT and Army this coming weekend.

"St. John's and Army are two of the better teams in the region," said Gendron. "Add Stony Brook and NJIt to the mix and it's the most grueling weekend of the season.  We are excited to test ourselves and see what we are made of."
