Belmatch, Lorenz complete impressive showing at Farnsworth Invite on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Philip Belmatch (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) both took home flight titles to complete a solid performance at the Farnsworth Invitational for the Bryant University men's tennis team.

"It was just a great weekend for freshman sensation Phil Belmatch. Whenever we enter these tournaments, the big picture goal is to finish each day with a winning record. To be 2-1 on the final day and still be playing is a solid performance. We are looking forward to our next event."

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES)

  • Competing in the doubles final of the 'B' flight, Belmatch and Lorenz were defeated, 8-4, by the duo of Jack Martin-Dyer and Jacob Edelchik from Lehigh.

HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES)

  • Belmatch wrapped up his outstanding weekend with a victory in the final of the 'D' flight. His 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Federico Ruiz Acevedo from St. John's capped a perfect 4-0 weekend for Belmatch who was competing for the first time with the Black and Gold.
  • After falling in the round of 32 on Friday, Lorenz battled his way through the back draw with four-straight wins. He capped of his back-draw title on Sunday with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory over Alex Roszkowski from St. John's.

UP NEXT

The ITA Regional Championships begin on Wednesday, Oct. 18 and run through the 23rd. Bryant's participants will be announced in the coming days.
