Bulldogs, Engineers split matches Wednesday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team won three of six matches against MIT on Wednesday night in Cambridge.

Facing the No. 21-ranked team in Division III, Bryant won a doubles match and two singles matches on the night.

How it happened (Doubles)

The two teams split the only two doubles matches that were played on Wednesday. Guido Argentini (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Michael Plutt (Weston, Fla.) were able to win , 8-7 (3-0). Sean Ko and Pablo Ampudia won 8-1.

How it happened (Singles)

Plutt was able to cap a perfect evening with a 7-5, 6-1 victory. MIT then won at the middle two matches of the evening.

Omar Gonzalez and Argentini went toe-to-toe in a classic match. Gonzalez won the first set, 7-6 (5-0), but Jakubowski rebounded for a 6-3 win in the second. The match was then decided in a tiebreaker as Gonzalez pulled out a crazy 15-13 win.

Freshman Philip Belmatch (Staten Island, N.Y.) was able to win 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles spot.

The Bulldogs head to Colorado for three matches this weekend. Bryant will face Dayton and Air Force on Saturday, before closing the weekend against Weber St. on Sunday.
