Men's tennis announces captains for spring

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's tennis head coach Ron Gendron announced his five captains for the spring season on Tuesday.

Seniors Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.), Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas) and Michael Plutt (Weston, Fla.), and juniors Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and Andrew Corrado (East Islip, N.Y.) will lead the Black and Gold this spring.

"Our captains play a critical role," head coach Ron Gendron said. "We are limited in resources for the size of our roster and it is critical towards the success of our program that the captains pick up the slack. This group has done more than I could have expected."

Kuhar is the two-time reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Year and is currently ranked No. 77 nationally. He's posted a 15-6 record this year, going 8-2 at No. 1 singles.

Jakubowski is a three-time All-NEC First Team selection in singles. He's won at least 13 matches in each of his first three years and is an NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.

Plutt was named the NEC Rookie of the Year in 2016 and has earned five All-NEC honors in singles and doubles play during his career. He is 6-7 overall this year after posting a 7-4 record as a junior.

Ortiz-Garcia was an All-NEC doubles player last year and also represented the Black and Gold at the Davis Cup with his older brother and former captain Jorge Ortiz-Garcia.

Corrado is 4-3 in his Bryant career and has been a key member of the team each of the last three years. He picked up a key win in Bryant's victory over MIT earlier this month.
