Kuhar, Pregel sweep NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's tennis senior Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) and freshman Andrew Pregel (Cincinnati, Ohio) were named the Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Thursday.

Adding to his collection, Kuhar won a second straight NEC Player of the Week honor following two NEC Player of the Month nods last fall. He posted a 3-0 mark at #1 singles last week as the Bulldogs won three dual matches to improve to 14-9 on the year. Kuhar beat Mount's Parth Sharma, 6-1, 6-2 last Friday, then knocked off reigning Patriot League Player of the Year Andrew Ton of Navy, 6-2, 6-3, the following afternoon. He wrapped his week with a 6-4, 6-1 conquest of George Washington's Zicheng Zeng in his second win of the day on Saturday. Kuhar, a two-time NEC Player of the Year, is now 22-7 in singles, including a 15-3 mark in #1 flight play.

Pregel comes off a 2-0 week in singles play for the Bulldogs, who won all three of their dual meet matches. The freshman from Cincinnati recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at #5 singles over the Mount's Evan Hine on Friday, then clinched Saturday's victory over GW with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over Michael Barsky. With an 11-3 record, Pregel is tied for second on Bryant in singles wins this year.
