Top-seeded Bulldogs open NEC Tennis Championships Thursday

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The top-seeded Bryant University men's tennis team opens play in the 2022 Northeast Conference Tennis Championships against eighth-seeded Wagner on Thursday. 

Bryant and Wagner will square off no earlier than 11:30 a.m. The winner of Thursday's match will face either fourth-seeded LIU or fifth-seeded Sacred Heart on Friday. 

The Bulldogs posted a 12-16 overall record and a 6-0 mark in league play during the regular season. Bryant and Wagner didn't face each other in the regular season but squared off in the 2019 NEC Championship match. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant has been led by seniors Grant Pertile and Andrew Pregel. Pertile is 11-7 in singles play, including a 6-6 mark in dual matches.
  • Pregel has posted a 14-3 mark in singles, including a 10-2 mark in dual matches. Pregel enters the tournament having won each of his last 10 matches.
  • Pertile and Pregel also form one of Bryant's top doubles teams, having posted an 8-4 overall record. They went 5-0 against NEC competition. 
  • Teague Burger, Diego Serra Sparrow, Nick Lorenz, Leonardo Mileikowsky, Will Pellegrini, Sepehr Raissi and Jean-Christophe Baril have all played well for the Black and Gold this spring. 
  • Burger is 13-12 overall and went 5-0 against NEC foes. 
  • Serra Sparrow has played at No. 1 singles for most of the year, going 8-13 overall and 3-2 against league opponents. 
  • Lorenz is 8-18 overall and 4-8 at No. 2 singles. 
  • Mileikowsky has had a great rookie season, going 18-10 overall and 6-0 against league foes. 
  • Pellegrini is 9-8 on the year, while Raissi went 4-11. 
  • Baril has posted an 11-5 overall record and went 2-0 against league foes. 
  • Serra Sparrow and Diego Trejo will form Bryant's top doubles unit and have posted a 5-6 overall record and a 2-1 mark against NEC opponents. 
  • Lorenz and Baril will play at No. 3. The duo will playing just their second doubles match together. 

Bryant in the NEC Tournament 

  • Bryant has won six NEC titles. The six came in succession from 2014-2019. 
  • Bryant's six-straight titles are the most in NEC history.
