As a Sophomore: Houseal had a phenomenal season, one that will be remembered in the Bulldog record books for a long time. The sophomore set the record for most strikeouts and innings pitched in a single season, striking out 180 batters while throwing in 249.2 innings, doing it all against DI competition. She finished with 11 victories and a 3.03 ERA, throwing 29 complete games and four shutouts. Houseal now ranks third all-time in strikeouts with 259, third in innings pitched with 386.1 and sixth in wins with 21. She was also ranked among the best of all Division I independent teams, ranking first in strikeouts, games started and innings pitched, while finishing sixth in wins and ERA. Houseal struck out ten-plus batters three times, setting a career-high with 13 strikeouts in a win over IPFW on March 10. She allowed two earned runs or less in each of her last five starts, throwing a complete game shutout against UConn to lift the team to the upset victory. Houseal's season was highlighted by a one-hit shutout against Central Connecticut, striking out nine batters while coming one out away from a perfect game.

As a Freshman: Houseal started 21 games on the hill for the Bulldogs, going 10-9 on the year with a 2.56 ERA as the number two starter in 2008. The freshman threw 16 complete games and recorded one shutout while also saving one game. Samantha also struck out 79 batters while walking just 49 while holding opponents to a .298 batting average in 136.2 innings.

Before Bryant: Samantha is a 2007 graduate of Donegal High School in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania where she played four years of varsity softball. She led her team to a state championship as a junior and her teams were twice sectional champions in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. As a senior, her team qualified for the states and she was named league co-MVP. She also played four years of basketball and field hockey at Donegal. She was team captain and Coaches' Award winner on the basketball team her junior and senior seasons and an Academic All-State honoree in field hockey. She was a member of National Honor Society in high school.
