Bulldogs look to jumpstart offense in Tuesday doubleheader, take on Iona and UC Riverside

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Coming off a 1-5 result at the LMU Tournament, the Bryant University softball team continues its Spring Break trip, traveling east of LA to take on Iona and UC Riverside on Tuesday at noon and 5 p.m. Eastern, respectively.

The Bulldogs (2-13) are hitting just .184 as a team and will be looking to get their bats going in Tuesday's doubleheader.

Senior Haylee Haas (Moorpark, Calif.) heads Bryant's offensive effort, batting .314 with a team-leading 11 hits while posting a .429 on base percentage and .371 slugging percentage. Sophomore Kaleigh Goulart (Marion, Mass.) leads the Bulldogs with a .394 slugging percentage and two doubles and drove out the team's first home run of the season against Quinnipiac at the LMU Tournament. Redshirt-sophomore Logan Paul (Shaker Heights, Ohio) leads the pitching staff with a 5.62 ERA despite an 0-2 record on the mound.

The Gaels (6-8) enter the contest on a four-game losing streak, most recently falling in a 9-1 decision to UC Riverside Sunday. Iona has been outscored, 31-14, during the stretch, but has shown its ability to swing the bat, posting a 10-spot at UT Martin Saturday. In their best win of the season, the Gaels defeated fellow NEC member Wagner, 15-1, in five innings.

Kristen Turner is the team's top hitter, slugging 19 hits in 47 at bats for a .404 batting average, while Tori Danner's six home runs and 16 RBI (.279) lead the side. She ranks 11th nationally in home runs per game and 43rd in RBI per outing. But Danner -- unlike Turner -- is ripe for a punchout, registering 11 strikeouts to her 12 hits. Turner has struck out just twice on the year.

A trio of pitchers have done work for the Gaels, and Marnie Skinner (3-5) and Alana Evans (3-1) post identical 5.40 ERAs. Skinner has six complete games in 45 innings pitched this season, giving up 27 earned runs on 54 hits with 29 strikeouts. Evans has fanned 32 in 33.1 innings of work but has issued 38 walks and allowed 36 hits.

The host Highlanders (10-9) are 9-3 at home and enter the contest fresh off that 9-1 win over Iona on Sunday. The Highlanders average .276 as a unit, while Hannah Rodriguez leads the team with a .426 batting clip. Madeline Richard has drawn 15 walks on the 2017 campaign and posts a .327 batting average, while Haley Harris has a team-leading 13 RBI off 14 hits.

Haley Marschall is 4-4 in the circle, posting a 3.30 ERA and two complete games. But she totals just 12 strikeouts on the season with 21 walks, giving up 66 hits (22 ER) in 46.2 innings of work. Tayler Misfeldt is 3-1 in 12 appearances (41.2 innings) with 29 strikeouts and just 10 walks. Opponents are hitting .340 and .314 against the pair, respectively.
